Studio Ghibli Fest 2024 opens with screenings of Spirited Away

GKIDS' upcoming “Studio Ghibli Fest 2024” kicks off with the re-release of Ghibli's 2001 classic Spirited Away. The re-release will be available for a five-night run in the United States only. GKIDS and Fathom will host a repeat of the festival this year, following the recent Oscar-winning The Boy and The Heron.

The film will be shown in both the original Japanese and English dubbed versions. In addition to the full feature, screenings will include a special behind-the-scenes look at the construction of Studio Ghibli Park in Nagoya, Japan. You can purchase tickets for Spirited Away online by visiting GhibliFest.com, FathomEvents.com or at participating theaters' box offices (Theatres and attendees are subject to change).

This year's iteration of the Studio Ghibli Festival will also see the re-release of Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind on May 19-21, as well as Castle in the Sky on May 20-22, among them. The list also includes special celebrations for the 20th Anniversary of Howl's Moving Castle, the 25th Anniversary of Kiki's Delivery Service, and the 30th Anniversary of Pom Poko.

Spirited Away is a beloved classic animated film directed by famous animator and director Hayao Miyazaki and produced by Studio Ghibli. The film, distributed by Toho, grossed $395.8 million at the worldwide box office. It was also Japan's highest-grossing film (total earnings 31.68 billion yen (US$305 million)) for 19 years, until'Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Movie: Mugen Train' took that spot in 2020. of the two Ghibli films to win the Oscar category for “Best Animated Feature.”
