Guts' sacrificial form comes after Griffith's betrayal in The Eclipse, when Griffith ascended to Femto. Griffith's brutal betrayal has led to him being ranked as one of the greatest anime villains of all time, placing in the top 10 alongside Dragon Ball Z's Frieza and other nefarious characters. The brand attracts evil spirits and cannot be removed, its effects can only be minimized.
