in News

Osamu Tezuka is known as the god of manga in Japan, the patron of the comic book genre. It's hardly surprising that throughout his life and career he created countless manga. Among one of his life's works is the unfinished Phoenix. The series went through several iterations starting in 1954 and ending a year later at Gakudosha, 1956 to 1957 at Kodansha, and repeated from 1967 to 1988 at various publishers. On the occasion of its 70th anniversary, the manga was adapted into a picture book titled Hi no Tori Inochi no Monogatari (Phoenix: A Story of Life).

According to the museum, the talk show will take place at the Takarazuka Cultural Creativity Center between 1:30-3:00 p.m. on May 11. After the talk show, there will be an autograph signing session. The venue is expected to accommodate 100 guests. Unfortunately, not all 100 guests will be able to attend the autograph session as it will be limited to 70 guests registered on the day. The website also says you will have to pay an entrance fee to the building to attend either event.

It's wonderful to see one of Tezuka Phoenix's greatest works reborn in picture book form. Although it lacks Tezuka's artistry, the artwork still has the whimsical features found in many of his works. This is a nice little gift for any Tezuka fan and costs 1,540 yen (about US$9.73).
